READING ASSIGNMENT #2

WEB, LIBRARY, TEEN SERVICES 2.0
I think the library using web 2.0 is a great idea. They rely on the community more to decide what the demand is for their needs. The librarians have to let go of their responsibility more and trust in the community. They have also been using 2.0 to entice teens into the library with gaming and letting them choose what needs to be in the library. They have set up designated rooms with projection screen for the teens to use with their games. They say the library can't be 100% 2.0 more like 1.5.

Google Docs

Google docs
web2.0
This is cool! Just as I read the assignment my buddy sent me a Google docs form to my Facebook as a link. He set up an online address/phone book for himself and his fiance. I thought it was a very good idea so I gave him a call for some advice on how to set it up. I tried making one for myself and it wasn't to hard. I like the fact that you can send it out to the people you want to receive it and they can just fill out the questions and send it right back. Very efficient way to receive a lot of information into one organized file online.

CRAIGSLIST!!!!

Most of us have heard about craigslist and probably used it at some point. This site is set up for the public to advertise and sell anything they don't have a need for anymore or just looking to make a quick buck. Just this last week I've had the chance to post a pool table I had no use for anymore, within two hours of the post I had people interested in the table and had it sold within a week. That's pretty cool. Craigslist is very user friendly and safe to use. All you need is a few pictures to upload a quick description of the item you want to sell and a way for buyers to contact you.

KIn 710, creating rss feeds

This assignment took a little bit of time to figure out how the bloglines actually worked. After several attempts trying to add some feeds I finally figured it out. At first it seemed like more of a waste in time but i might be coming around to it. After playing with it for a while I should figure out the best ways to use the site and make the best out of my time. I do like the fact that you can be on one site "bloglines" and actually be on all your favorite and most visited sites all at the same time. Seems like it is user friendly and worth my time.

Social Networking! Kin 710 #1

Social Networking!

This was more of a informational refresher for the average young adult who is involved with the world wide web on a daily basis. The article made it interesting in ways that we communicate compared to just a decade ago. It's really is interesting how the we communicate and gain information through our social networks Facebook, Myspace, Blogger, Twitter, Wikipedia. 55% of kids between the ages of 13 and 17 are actively using one of these social networks. Ha it's kind of like a drug in some ways. The article compared the differences between the networks and how they are used for communication between friends and work. How they are changing the way we communicate. I find it interesting because of our social networking and the ways it's changing our lives. We as teachers will have to be up to date on all aspects of the social network in order to communicate with students and other teachers. Everything is run through the internet in some way or another. If we learn to use these tools we can become much more efficient at what we do.

One great early morning!

This was one of the finest days of duck hunting I've experienced. Thanks to my friend Brian who invited me out to his duck club and gave me a guided hunt. His Chocolate lab Buster was there with us to do what he loves doing, fetching up the ducks after a rear but great shot. As most of my friends know hunting is my real passion in life.
